The Houston crew is excited to be able to host our 23rd bi-annual family reunion from Thursday, July 6th, 2023 through Sunday, July 9th, 2023.
The deadline is here! June 10th was the date we asked for you to have your registration in and your choice for banquet plates. We have spoken with the hotel and have gotten a few more days but we have to get this to them by next week. Not the end of next week, but before the end of next week. So, Thursday, 6-15, is the negotiated end to get you last minute folks in. Remember we need your registration to place your order which was out of a Halibut fish dish, a stuffed crusted chicken breast(stuffed with cheese), a vegetarian plate and lastly a kid's meal of either burger or chicken nuggets. I have also included our itinerary for your planning needs to make sure you have all the information you need to thoroughly enjoy your 2023 Houston family reunion. Remember some of these have cost associated with them outside of your registration notated by the $. Please also note that some excursions take place at the same time or close to the time of others so you will have to choose which you want to do most. Also leaving from the hotel may be a different time than what is shown to facilitate transports. With that said, here is a brief description of what we have planned for you.
We're going to hit the ground running so Thursday when you arrive, be ready to participate in or at least cheer on your family performers at our talent show being held in our hospitality suite, which will also serve as our registration dispatch, meeting place for excursions, the senior round table, hangout for those who just want to chill, and whatever else we need it to be all the days of our family reunion. Following our talent show, Doctors Kevin and Zinaria will go over some of their work that they have uncovered from the past concerning our family history. If others would like to share findings after their presentation, such as "21 and me" findings updated family tree and the like, are welcome to do so. Then it's lights out for you to get ready for your busy Friday. Of course, you are free to visit Houston on your own whenever you please.
We know many of you think we ride horses to work here, so we are bringing three of them for you to experience what a ride to work feels like. All kidding aside, at the picnic you will be able to ride a horse if you would like or you can just do a photo op with one. While it is not mandatory, wearing long pants and closed toe shoes is strongly encouraged if you plan on riding even for a short period time. Also consider that we are preparing for our first kickball game at the picnic as well as many other physical activities; like corn hole, plastic axe throws, volleyball, and badminton to name a few so tennis might be the footwear of choice or at least bring some with you to the picnic if you want to show off your toe nail job you had done for us. The BBQ will be served from 12:30 to 3:30pm which your registration wristband will be your food ticket. Please note if for some reason you are not present during those serving times, we cannot be held responsible for you not eating. Please plan your times accordingly. Golfers, as soon as you return you probably need to make a plate. But wait there's more! Just to make sure you go to bed on empty after we leave the picnic, we are heading to Funplex to finish the night with bowling, skating, rides and games. The $40 gets you all of that unlimited. They even have a place for you to sit back and unwind, taking in all the happenings of the day. A restaurant is present there if you get hungry again.
The banquet promises to be quite the show. Remember we are humbly requesting that you choose whether to wear all white, all black, or traditional African clothing for the banquet. We are hoping to showcase a few of our talent show winners as well as recognize many of our participants in the activities planned. From informational speeches to memorials, we are planning an exciting night for you. I feel safe in saying the food provided will be very tasty and most pleasing to you. Think restaurant for portion sizes. As the night ends some of you may choose to join Johnny D on a night of cigar bliss taking in some of the finest stogies in Texas.
Lastly, while breakfast is provided every day, this will be the last breakfast that we can share together. So, if you would like, we can meet in the hotel restaurant to enjoy this last meal of sorts. We will say good by and go into hibernation to recover, having fond memories of our time spent together here in Houston dancing through our heads.
